Sometimes I really need to take my own advice. I spend my days as a life coach discussing the importance of setting goals with people. Long term goals, short term goals, specific goals, measurable goals. Goals, goals, goals. We spend time talking about where you want to get to, then we set some goals to get you on your way.
Setting goals and making an action plan is the beating heart at the centre of a life coaching session. It’s what moves us forward once we know what we want to do.
We all have those amazing light bulb moments where we realise what we want to do. We start thinking how amazing it will be, picturing how different we’ll feel and envisaging what we’ll do once we’re there.
But how many of you have come back down to earth with a bump when you realise you’re not sure how to get there? I know I have. And still do, on a very regular basis.
The difference between the dreamers and the people that have made it?
Goal setting. It’s the single most important thing you can start doing to get yourself closer to where you want to be. And I’m a nightmare for forgetting to goal set. You can promise to put in all the hard graft but without a plan you’re a boat without a rudder. And there’s no point in setting off to sail if you don’t know which way you’re going or how you’re going to get there.
There’s the old saying, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”, and it’s so true!
An action plan makes you accountable and gives you the focus you need to get started. Long term goals help keep your eye on the bigger picture, while short term, manageable goals keep you motivated and are achievable.
As a life coach I get to see first hand the difference an action plan can make. Having regular coaching really can get you from where you are now to where you want to be, if you’re willing to get started. I certainly wouldn’t be where I am now without it.
So if you’re like me and have all the passion but not the plan, then get in touch. It really could be the start of something amazing.
And don’t you deserve amazing?
